FAO Representative – Cabo Verde

About the role

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is seeking a senior professional to serve as its Representative in Cabo Verde, based in Praia. The Representative leads the FAO Country Office, steering the implementation of FAO’s strategic framework to promote sustainable, inclusive agrifood systems and improve food security across the nation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the FAO country programme, office, resources and staff, ensuring alignment with FAO’s global objectives.
• Advise and support the Government of Cabo Verde in developing policies, programmes and projects that enhance food security, agriculture, fisheries and forestry.
• Identify, formulate and mobilise new projects, coordinating with donors, NGOs, civil society and research institutions.
• Assist in disaster risk reduction, response and the rehabilitation of the agricultural sector.
• Promote public awareness campaigns such as World Food Day and other FAO initiatives.
• Serve as the principal liaison between FAO headquarters, regional offices and the host government.
• Monitor socio‑economic developments and provide timely reports on the state of the agriculture sector.

Required profile

• Extensive experience managing country‑level programmes in the agriculture, food security or related sectors.
• Proven ability to work with government officials, donors, NGOs and international partners.
• Strong leadership and staff management capabilities.
• Excellent communication and diplomatic skills.
